Have you put the new variables such as $gender_on in the list of global variables? I'm trying to follow yor thread here, but not seeing the whole picture as to things like where globals are declared.

If I'm reading what I think I is, an admin section page, then the globals are declared in /pages/admin/index.php Not declaring them there forces the function to use a NULL for the variable which is not the same as being a "1" or a "0", which might misdirect the results in the if branch (if $gender_on == "0") because its neither of them.

I added it to the globals in the index.php and it still displays incorrectly

It works now. Thanks kurt! I think the reason it didnt work right away is cuz of cache. But it works now so im happy ill be posting the mod tomarrow when i complete it.

Glad it worked. This is one of the reasons I set cachelife to 1 when I do dev work lol.
